Why is this education important?

Despite obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) being a source of significant morbidity and mortality, it is underdiagnosed and undertreated. Poor patient outcomes stem from inadequate and/or inconsistent screening in high-risk patients, a dearth of sleep specialists to effectively manage all patients, and poor collaboration amongst disciplines to evaluate and manage patients. To improve outcomes for patients with OSA, integrated care delivery is essential. Multidisciplinary providers must develop appropriate infrastructures to facilitate an earlier diagnosis and be ready to optimally treat highly complex patients.

    Is your team equipped to:

  • Identify at-risk patients?
  • Conduct routine screenings in patients at high risk?
  • Select and interpret the best sleep test for a patient?
  • Recognize typical and atypical presentations of OSA to mitigate disease-associated complications?
  • Coordinate and manage care for your patients with OSA?
1

Working collaboratively with expert faculty, your clinical team will participate in formative evaluation, scenario-based learning (SBL), and action planning to identify and model change elements to improve future clinical practice.

2

Establish frameworks for interdepartmental collaboration for OSA screening and diagnosis in in diverse patient populations.

3

Support KOL development! Identify a team member to participate in our training and then facilitate the program at your site to mitigate inefficiencies or deficiencies that currently exist in OSA risk assessment, screening and diagnosis in high-risk patients.

From general practice to specialty care, HCPs across diverse settings play an important role in screening, diagnosing, and treating patients with OSA. Ensuring that all clinicians have the knowledge needed to assist patients with OSA is a critical component of this education. Choose topics that are most relevant to your clinical setting and customize a presentation to improve the quality of care you provide to your patients. It's time to help your patients get the quality sleep they deserve and reduce the potential for complications!

How does this initiative support you?

Rush University Medical Center and the Academy for Continued Healthcare Learning (ACHL) partnered on this initiative to support your efforts to improve your team’s knowledge of screening, diagnosing, and treating patients who may have OSA. You can access experts in sleep management to deliver high-level education efficiently and cost-effectively.

Educators are trained to deliver targeted programs while applying adult learning principles to foster engagement, promote critical thinking, and drive acquisition of enhanced clinical competency. Your team receives access to the latest data and critical real-world perspectives and guidance for translating the data to practice.

Learners will improve their ability to adopt effective counseling and treatment approaches for patients at risk of OSA.

Yes! Return to the Sleep Management Hub and proceed to the 1st pathway to ‘become an educator.’

The goals of ToT programs are to create consistency, efficiency, and sustainability to improve educational effectiveness. Educators receive training on adult learning principles and scenario-based learning, facilitative skills, critical thinking, and strategic assessment of learner/practice setting needs. They begin with a pre-training assessment to determine strengths and areas of development and receive a targeted training program intended to promote mastery of the content. Once individualized needs are identified, a core curriculum developed by experts in the field further improves their knowledge.

Yes, this content library was developed with these objectives:
  • Implement routine OSA screening for patients with obesity and other OSA risk factors.
  • Identify tools that can aid in screening patients for OSA.
  • Initiate diagnostic workups for patients with suspected OSA.
  • Evaluate results from OSA diagnostic studies.
